As leaders of sung prayer at St. Joseph Church, we are committed to the full, active and conscious participation of the Assembly. Our goal is always first and foremost to guide everyone gathered to sing and take ownership of their prominent role in the liturgy.
For those who would like to use their musical talents in this leadership ministry, we offer a diverse range of opportunities for people of all ages and abilities. Please contact Dugan McGinley, Director of Music, if you are interested in any of the following.

Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist (Eucharistic Ministers) help all to see the communal dimension of the liturgy as they assist the presider in the distribution of the Body and Blood of Christ at the Eucharist. Those who serve should be inviting, caring people. They must give each member of the assembly a gracious welcome befitting the honored guests at the table of the Lord.
This ministry is for those who wish to share their faith in the Eucharist with the members of the assembly in a more intimate manner. The best ministers have the ability to communicate their faith through eye contact and gesture and are truly present to people in the brief moment of faith that is shared. Extraordinary Ministers need to be practicing Roman Catholics.
Extraordinary ministers are graced with the opportunity to share Christ's body and blood with others. They recognize Christ in the faces of all who approach. They are privileged to proclaim each person as a member of the Mystical Body by saying the words "The Body of Christ" and "The Blood of Christ." Extraordinary ministers profess the faith of the Church and ask for affirmation in the assembly's "amen."

The cycle of readings used in liturgy directs us on a journey of faith. Lectors are our storytellers on this journey, proclaiming the scripture in a way that reminds us God's word is alive here and now. By leading the Prayer of the Faithful, lectors remind us of our connections to both local and global communities and help us pray for those in need.
Those in this ministry should possess good public reading skills (articulation, pacing, eye contact) and a manner of speaking that draws attention to the Word of God.
By utilizing the provided preparation material, lectors gain a fuller knowledge and understanding of scripture. By proclaiming the scriptures in the liturgical assembly, lectors bring to birth the living word of God. The lectors minister the presence of God who speaks when the scriptures are proclaimed in church. Lectors help to feed the assembly from the table of the word, just as the presider and the extraordinary ministers help to feed the assembly from the table of the Eucharist.
